Request for amendment or reconsideration of grading decision

  • Grade decisions cannot be appealed. However, a student can request to have his grade reconsidered.

Reconsideration should be requested as soon as possible. There is no time limit for requesting a grade reconsideration, but the request may become more difficult to review as time goes on. The request should also be sent in well in advance of an upcoming re-examination so that Kristianstad university has feasibility to process the request.

    Amendment
A grade decision that contains an obvious inaccuracy as a result of writing errors, calculation errors or any other similar oversight may be corrected by the examiner, ch. 6 Section 23 of the Higher Education Ordinance and Section 36 of the Administration Act.

    Reconsideration/change of decision
If an examiner considers that a decision on a grade is clearly incorrect due to new circumstances or for some other reason, the examinar must change the decision, if it can be done quickly and easily and if it does not mean that the grade is lowered, ch. 6 Section 24 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

    This means that:
    • Reconsideration of the grade is done by the examiner if the student presents new cirdumstances or if the grade is clearly incorrect, for example incorrect calculation of points or if the examiner forgot to score a question.
    • The examiner quickly looks for obvious errors in the assessment. It is not a matter of "correcting" or "reassessing" already assessed answers.
    • Only the examiner can reconsider the grading decision.

    Justification
A request for reconsideration of a grade decision must be justified in detail with regard to grading criteria or expected study results, alternatively a correction template if one exists. The following examples of justifications are usually NOT considered sufficient for a change in grading decision.

    1. "I`ve looked at another student`s exam and think I should get the same number of points because we answered roughly the same"
    2. "I`m close to G or VG, can you see if you can find some more points?"
    3. "I think I should get more points on question X"
    4. "I am dissatisfied with my grade and would like the examiner to go through my exam one more time"
